Family photography with Candid Studios captures your family as you actually are — the way your kids laugh, the way you hold each other, the energy that makes your family yours. Since 2016, we've photographed families of every size and configuration across Colorado, Florida, Ohio, Texas, Illinois, and New York, from newborns to multi-generational gatherings. Sessions run 45-90 minutes at a location of your choosing — a favorite park, your home, a beach, or a downtown neighborhood — and include wardrobe coordination guidance and a relaxed, play-based approach that keeps kids engaged instead of forcing them to sit still and smile. We capture a mix of traditional group portraits, candid interactions, and individual shots of each family member. Every package includes 40-75 retouched images delivered in a private online gallery with digital downloads and a print release. We recommend scheduling during golden hour for the most flattering natural light, and we always build buffer time into the session for snack breaks, outfit changes, and toddler negotiations. Candid Studios made the whole process so easy from start to finish which was a huge relief since we were already stressed about planning everything else. Our photographer was incredible at blending into the background during our first look near the water at The Atlantic Hotel & Spa without being intrusive at all and then captured those quiet moments during our vows later in the evening with such care. We really wanted someone who understood engagement photography in Florida and how to capture that specific warm light which y'all totally nailed. The Atlantic is a gorgeous spot but also has tight spaces so it was impressive how you managed to find angles that made everything look spacious and romantic. All sessions include a pre-session planning call, professional photography at your chosen location, wardrobe guidance, multiple family groupings (whole family, parents, siblings, individual kids), professional editing, a private online gallery, and high-resolution digital files with print release.
We're experienced with kids of all ages! We use games, songs, and playful prompts to capture genuine smiles and laughter. We schedule sessions around nap times, bring bubbles and small toys, and take plenty of candid shots between posed ones. Happy kids make the best photos.
We recommend coordinating colors rather than matching outfits. Choose a color palette of 2-3 complementary colors with varying textures. Avoid large logos and neon colors. We send a detailed style guide with outfit examples after booking.
Popular locations include parks, botanical gardens, beaches, urban downtown areas, your home, or any meaningful family spot. We know the best locations in every city and choose spots with beautiful backgrounds, good light, and space for kids to move around.
Standard family sessions run 60 minutes, which allows for multiple locations, groupings, and candid play time. Extended sessions (90 minutes) are ideal for larger families or when including pets. We work efficiently while keeping the atmosphere relaxed and fun.
Yes! Dogs, cats, and other pets are absolutely welcome. We recommend having someone available to wrangle the pet for portion of the session where you want pet-free family shots. Some of our most-loved family portraits include four-legged family members.
Fall is the most popular season with its warm colors and comfortable weather. Spring blooms are gorgeous. Summer offers green backdrops and long golden hours. Even winter creates stunning minimalist scenes. Each season has its unique beauty.
Standard family sessions deliver 40-60 professionally edited images. Extended sessions deliver 60-80+ images. Each photo is individually color-corrected and retouched. We deliver a thoughtfully curated gallery with variety and the best expressions from every grouping.
Some of the best family photos come from kids being kids! We blend traditional posed shots with candid, documentary-style captures of your family interacting naturally. Running, playing, laughing—these authentic moments are what you'll treasure most.
Yes! We offer themed mini sessions throughout the year: spring blooms, summer golden hour, fall foliage, and holiday card sessions. Mini sessions are 20 minutes and include 15-20 edited images at a reduced rate. They book up quickly so sign up early.
