How a Candid Studios Family Session Actually Works
A lot of families come to us having dreaded family photo sessions in the past — the matching outfits nobody was comfortable in, the stiff poses, the kids who hit a wall right before the photographer arrived. We've built our entire approach around avoiding exactly that. Sessions run 45 to 90 minutes, and the pace is genuinely relaxed. We factor in snack breaks, outfit changes, and the inevitable toddler standoff, because those are just part of photographing real families. We capture a mix of everything: traditional group portraits for the grandparents, candid moments of your kids being ridiculous with each other, individual shots of each family member, and the in-between moments that tend to become everyone's favorites. We'll give you gentle guidance when it helps and step back when it doesn't. Our job is to create the conditions for real moments — not to choreograph a performance. Every session includes professional retouching, and your finished gallery of 40 to 75 images will be delivered in a private online gallery with full digital downloads and a print release so you can actually use them. We also provide wardrobe coordination guidance before your session, which takes a lot of the guesswork out of pulling together a look that feels cohesive without being matchy-matchy. We use a play-based approach rather than asking kids to stand still and smile on command. In practice, that means letting kids move, explore, and interact naturally with each other and with you — and working quickly to capture the real moments that come out of that. We're patient with toddlers, experienced with babies, and genuinely comfortable with the chaos that comes with photographing real families. We've found that the best photos almost always happen when kids forget a camera is there.
Sessions take place at a location of your choosing.
