Manatee Lagoon is one of the more unusual venues we shoot in the West Palm Beach area, and it photographs like nowhere else on our calendar. The FPL Eco-Discovery Center sits right on the Lake Worth Lagoon, so ceremonies and portraits get a wide-open waterfront backdrop with Palm Beach Island visible across the water. Because it's a two-story facility with several distinct event spaces, we get real variety in a single day, waterside shots for the ceremony, then a different look and feel for portraits and reception coverage without ever leaving the property.
The setting also comes with a genuine novelty factor for guests: manatees are known to pass through the lagoon during cooler months, and more than one couple we've worked with has had guests step outside between courses to watch for them. As photographers, we plan around the golden hour light over the water, since that waterfront exposure is the single biggest asset the venue offers.
