The Broadmoor sits on 3,000 acres at the foot of Cheyenne Mountain, and the property's scale is the first thing we plan around: this is a resort with a dozen possible ceremony and reception rooms, so no two Broadmoor weddings look alike.
Most outdoor ceremonies happen on the West Tower Lawn, the largest of the lawns, ringed by mature pine, maple, and cherry trees that block direct sun and keep faces evenly lit through the afternoon. Couples wanting mountain views instead choose the Lakeside Terrace, which looks across Cheyenne Lake toward Cheyenne Mountain, or the Cheyenne Lodge Terrace, tucked higher on the property with a quieter, more private feel. For an indoor ceremony, the Pauline Memorial Chapel is a Spanish Colonial Revival building from 1919 with a basilica floor plan; its deep-set windows give a soft, even light that photographs beautifully without flash.
Cheyenne Lake itself is the property's signature portrait location. We build in time about an hour before sunset to walk couples down to the shoreline: the light turns warm and low, the mountains reflect across the water, and the resort's century-old pink main building glows behind them. It is the single most requested shot at The Broadmoor, and it only works in that late window, so we protect it on the timeline no matter what else is happening that day.
Receptions move indoors to rooms like the Rocky Mountain Ballroom, the Main Ballroom with its statement chandeliers and Old World details, or Broadmoor Hall for larger guest counts. The Fountain Room and Lake Terrace Dining Room both have floor-to-ceiling windows, which means the golden hour we caught outside carries straight through into the reception photos instead of cutting off the moment the ceremony ends. We watch those west-facing windows closely during first dances and toasts, since the light shifts fast in the thirty minutes after sunset.
Because the resort sits above 6,400 feet, Colorado Springs afternoons can turn quickly even on a clear morning, so we always build a covered backup into the plan for the lawn ceremonies. Spring and early summer bring the greenest grounds; September and October add gold aspen color to the mountainside backdrop without the crowds of peak wedding season.
Because the resort is spread across so much ground, we treat guest transportation as part of the photo plan, not just logistics: knowing which shuttle route a wedding party will take tells us where to stage candid arrival shots and where to catch guests as they move between the ceremony lawn and whichever ballroom hosts the reception. Winter weddings here have their own appeal too. With fewer guests wandering the grounds and snow on the pines around Cheyenne Lake, the property photographs with a quieter, more intimate feel than the height of summer season, even inside ballrooms built to hold hundreds.
